Many many thanks to each patient who took the time to submit an essay for our second annual Davis & Goldberg Scholarship! We enjoyed reading your creative words and heartfelt essays! It was a tough decision but our winner wrote with eloquence and truly brought his story to life!
We would like to congratulate Sawyer Moseley on receiving the $1,000 scholarship! As we read his words, we truly felt like we were standing on the sidelines watching him “turn a mistake into a miracle!” After misspeaking and telling a swimmer she was only one place away from qualifying for finals, she dove in for her race only for Sawyer to realize she was in fact 8 places away. To his dismay, his encouragement propelled her right into the finals! We hope that that your persistence and determination continue to make seemingly “unattainable dreams within reach!” Sawyer is a senior at Southwest Guilford High School and will be studying International Relations at American University in DC!
Being a full-time student while volunteering and serving others through various philanthropies is hard work! We are so proud of each of our entrants and all they are doing to make a difference in this world we get to call home! We wish each of you the best as you continue to chase your dreams! Our hope is that you continue to allow failure to be your best teacher as you try new things and embark on new adventures!
First up, we would like to congratulate Grace Bellamy on receiving the $1,000 scholarship! Her inspirational words tugged on each of our heart strings and left a smile on each of our faces! She symbolized high school as the rainbow and described what each color has represented in her life throughout her four year journey! Grace is a senior at Wesleyan Christian Academy and will be studying Audiology at East Carolina University!
Our runners up, each receiving a $500 scholarship, are Shawn Mathew and Braxton White!
Shawn took us to the fields of Kottarakkara, India where children were playing soccer with balls made of leaves that had been sewn together. He could see their deep love for sports and decided to do all he could to make a difference! The passion he brought to his story was brilliant and we are so proud of all that he is doing to make a difference in his community, near and far! Shawn, may you always continue to push yourself out of your comfort zone and into the infinite possibilities of service you see over the rainbow! Shawn is a senior at Guilford Early College and will be studying Chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill!
As an inducted member of the Order of the Arrow, Braxton has learned countless lessons from the Boy Scouts. The most valuable being that of “cheerful service” and what it truly means to be fulfilled by serving others. This is a concept many people never fully grasp and we have no doubt that Braxton will make a positive impact on all of humanity as he continues to chase the end of the rainbow! Braxton is a senior at Ledford High School and will be studying Graphic Design at NC State!
